The Trunk Elephant Family

I really meant to do this post earlier this week, but work is just hectic, for the first time in my life I'm actually earning my salary ;-)

So without further ado let me introduce to my 1st and all time favorite family... The TRUNKS! They had some tough competition over the two odd years that I've been collecting, but somehow, they always end up on top. Their toughest competition to date is the Macavity family, which I just adore, but I think the Trunks is keeping the top spot for now, because of the sentiment they have attached to them.

They live in Beechwood Hall, which is coincidentally also the Mayor's residence in Sugarbush Valley. They have previously lived in Cedar Terrace !e, but sold that house to the Henry-Lloyds when Hugo got the job as Mayor. Read all about it here and here.

Mayor Hugo spends most of his days in his study, which was cosily decorated by his wife, Savannah.

Nellie's favorite past time is to stand on the stool of her mother's dressing table, sampling lipsticks, perfume and jewelry.

Savannah's favorite place is her kitchen. She loves how roomy it is, ideal for testing out new recipes.

Igor loves his siblings, but they are becoming a bit too much. They are just everywhere.

At first I was unsure where Hugo will work. The Mayor of any town needs an office. Then I came up with the idea of converting this small room into a study and home office.

Before I got this house, I really thought it was more spacious, big where my surprise when I got it and I once again - like with the cottages, had to carefully plan each room. I was relieved to find that this room had a removable wall to merge the two very small rooms into a bigger and more spacious one. It was ideal for the parents room and bathroom.

View of parents room - due to the unexpected appearance of little Emily she will, for now, sleep in her cot in her parents room.

View of the bathroom. I pasted the little tiles on a piece of paper that was cut to fit in that awkward space.

My favorite part of this house is the study, but I'm pretty satisfied with how the kitchen turned out too. It is almost retro. The tea-set was a gift from a friend and the blue cupboards I got off e-bay. It was released with the Applewood Department Store (a fellow collector did an amazing inventory of it).

As I mentioned it took some planning to fit everything in. I knew I wanted the kitchen at the front door and that I had to leave a room for the study. This room was ideal for the children. Everything fitted perfectly.

At first I was unsure if I wanted to use the attachment in the middle of the house, as that would mean it would have to be displayed like that, which takes up a lot of space. But then I realised that the Mayor does need an entertainment area. After that decision was made, I was undecided if I wanted a patio or living room. In the end the living-room won, only because I already had the furniture.

A well known fact by now is that Hugo Trunk is the Mayor of Sugarbush Valley. He is extremely proud of his position, but it is extremely exhausting especially to find suitable houses for all the villagers. Read all about it here.

Mother Savannah is a writer and quite accomplished too, but it has been ages since she had last touched her beloved typewriter.

  3. This house is really difficult to wallpaper! I tried and abandoned hopes LOL I like that you have used the small space so ingeniously. I will remove the wall between the two small room as well because it's really impossible to do anything with such tiny rooms. Lovely kitchen hutch you have! The blue looks so nice! I wished there were more colorful kitchen hutch like that. All mines are brown. The typewriter looks awesome! Can't wait to see what story you will post about it!
